Open Seminar on the Chinese Consumer Market
Copenhagen Business Confucius Institute is organising an open seminar in cooperation with Danish-Chinese Business Forum at CBS on 7 April 2011, titled Marketing and Branding on the Chinese Consumer Market. This seminar is the first outcome of a cooperation with DCBF, aiming at inviting prominent keynote speakers from China to speak at open seminars. A registration fee will be charged at these seminars in order to cover costs associated with the involvement of external speakers.
The Chinese government is focusing on boosting domestic private consumption from 36 percent today to 42-45 percent by 2015 as a share of GDP. At the same time is the Chinese middleclass growing rapidly (defined as households with an annual income between RMB 60,000 and RMB 500,000), and is forecasted to reach 700 million people by 2020 accounting for 48 percent of the population. In 2009, China overtook the US to become the world’s second largest consumer for luxury goods.
How can foreign companies access this growing consumer market? And what should foreign brands be aware of in relation to market segmentation, marketing and branding when entering the Chinese consumer market? These and other questions will be addressed at this seminar by Chinese experts.
The first keynote speech will be delivered by Mr. Franklin Yao, CEO of the Shanghai-based consulting and advisory company SmithStreetSolutions. Mr. Yao will focus on the development of the Chinese consumer market and share his knowledge on how Danish/European companies should analyse and approach it. Furthermore, Mr. Fang Shiwei, Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Li-Ning Group will talk about his experience from the Chinese consumer market and with developing a local Chinese brands such as Li-Ning sportswear (please see attached profiles of the speakers).
