20 Years’ Development and Discovery of China

Ian Tokley is an English qualified solicitor, currently a partner in Kromann Reumert’s banking and finance group and previously a partner in a leading international firm based in London. Ian is experienced in all types of corporate and commercial work though he specializes primarily in leveraged finance and debt capital markets work. He represents Danish and International banks and investment banks in respect of syndicated and acquisition financing as well as capital markets generally with considerable experience in respect of securitization and structured finance. Ian has substantial experience in M&A and equity capital markets work, particularly in China and Asia where he worked over 10 years. Ian Tokley has been recognized for over 15 years as a leading lawyer in Hong Kong, China, Germany and Denmark. He was one of the first foreign visiting professors to the prestigious Tsinghua University in Beijing teaching international securities law to MBA students at the Business School which was then headed by Vice Premier Zhu Rongji and an author of several books on Chinese law.

Ian will talk about the development he has seen in the Chinese market during the period from 1991 to 2011 from his early involvement with the drafting of the PRC Company and Banking laws to acting for Chinese companies listing on the London, Hong Kong and New York Stock Exchanges to finally dealing with Chinese investors and corporates as some of most powerful and wealthy in the global economy. He will reveal his own discoveries about China and explain how they helped with his personal strategy towards doing business in and with China.
