Copenhagen Sakura Festival
When the Sakura trees in Japan blossoms, people gather together for Hanami – flower watching. It is an occasionally tradition where people meet up with family and friends to have a picnic while viewing the beautiful Sakura trees. Some people also wear the traditional Yukata at this occasion.
On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of H.C. Andersen’s birthday in 2005, Mr. Seiichi Takaki – President of Andersen Institute of Bread & Life – donated 200 Sakura trees which were planted in Langeline Park. In 2008, The Committee of the Copenhagen Sakura Festival was established to arrange the cultural event Copenhagen Sakura Festival with the help of the Japanese Embassy in Denmark, the Municipality of Copenhagen and other Japan-related cultural and private organizations.
This event features a lot of different performances of Japanese culture and art, and you can get a taste of Japanese food and delicacies as well! The previous two years the weather has been wonderful and people enjoyed the nice weather, the cherry blossoms and the show. So if you are interested in Japanese culture, come and join the Sakura Festival this year – and if you have a yukata or kimono, it’s a perfect occasion to show it off!

This year’s Sakura Festival 2010 is held the 17th and 18th of April at Langelinie Park. Bring your friends and family and enjoy this beautiful occassion!
